The third edition of Luci e Ombre was performed at the Teatro Nazionale in Milan on September 21st. During this edition, Luci e Ombre intertwined the elegance of dance, the power of judo, and the emotion of music, to give voice to authentic stories of invisible struggles that many people face daily. It shed light on sensitive issues such as social isolation, eating disorders, bullying, and depression, deeply touching the hearts of the audience. But that’s not all, an intense monologue, intertwined with the magic of dance and music, was dedicated to the stigma surrounding perinatal depression. With elegance and empathy, the theatre hosted over 900 participants to confront a reality often hidden by societal taboos, offering an opportunity to reflect on the suffering experienced by many women and families.
The show has been performed at the evening of the first day of the 37th Congress of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), an annual conference gathering mental health and neuroscience experts from around the world.
Many ECNP attendees that jointed Luci e Ombre show, together with a non-academic audience, shared profound feedback.
Here we report some examples of messages that we received:
“This is just a brief personal note to thank you and all those involved (especially the performers of course) for the thought provoking, impressive and wonderfully delivered soiree on Saturday in Milan…
The event was very well received by ECNP.
As someone who has the luck to see a lot of great modern dance (I live in Paris), I was struck by the excellent standard and assume that the dancers were indeed professionals.”
“I would like to congratulate the entire staff on the beautiful and moving performance, full of passion, professionalism, and emotion. See you next year!”
“Thank you so much for the wonderful project you shared tonight at the Teatro Nazionale! The emotions truly came through and were deeply felt!”
“The first day of @ecnp.eu 2024 ended in a profound and emotional way, with a theatrical performance depicting the suffering experienced by those living with mental disorders. Special thanks to the @luci_e_ombre_show team for this impressive experience.”
“Many thanks to @luci e ombre show for a beautiful performance, allowing people to understand and experience the suffering that comes with mental disorders. What a beautiful way of closing off the first day of @ecnp.eu 2024”
“I want to take a moment to once again congratulate you and all the organizers for the Luci ed Ombre event! I really wanted to take a picture with all of you — but I forgot! I’m truly proud and grateful to have met you along my journey. I hope you continue to perform all these activities, because it’s these ‘small great moments’ that truly make a difference"
