Sonja Entringer

Sonja Entringer is a Professor at the Institute of Medical Psychology at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany and an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, University of California, Irvine. Her main research focus is on psychobiological mechanisms of developmental origins of health and disease risk. Factors she studies in this context range from individual factors such as stress and nutrition during pregnancy, and societal determinants such as migration and social inequality. She is particularly interested in the biological mechanisms by which these experiences can be transmitted from the mother to the developing fetus and permanently embedded during fetal and child development. She has been continuously supported by grants from the NIH, the ERC, the German Research Foundation and other agencies. Her research has high relevance for the development of new, innovative prevention and intervention strategies that start in the early developmental period, before disease manifestation occurs, thus helping to reduce the burden of disease on individuals and society.
